Responsible Use of AI

Using technology to foster connection & support better patient outcomes

As a nurse-led organization, we believe technology should be used to strengthen care, not replace the relationship at its core.

We see artificial intelligence (AI) as a supportive tool that can improve access, reduce administrative burden, and help clinicians focus more fully on what matters most: meaningful connection, clinical judgment, and safe, compassionate care.

Our approach to AI is guided by clear guiding principles:

  • Human-led care first. Clinical decisions always remain with licensed clinicians.
  • Safety and ethics. We evaluate emerging technologies thoughtfully, with attention to privacy, security, HIPAA compliance, racial bias, and professional standards.
  • Transparency. We are intentional and open about how and where technology is used within our practice.
  • Collaboration, not replacement. AI should support clinicians, helping them work more effectively, not removing the human role.
  • Continuous learning. As healthcare evolves, we remain committed to responsible innovation grounded in evidence and nursing values.

We also recognize that as technology becomes more embedded in daily life, many people are experiencing increasing isolation and disconnection. Research consistently shows that social connection is fundamental to mental and physical health, with loneliness associated with higher risks of depression, anxiety, and even mortality. At Lavender, we believe that care must move in the opposite direction, toward deeper connection. We’ll use technology to help  create more space for presence, empathy, and real relationships, not less.

We believe the future of mental health care is one where clinicians harness technology thoughtfully and ethically in service of better patient care.
